Saskatoon Berry

The Saskatoon Berry is the Chief of food grown above the ground that nourishes the human population. Historically, the Okanagan has passed from farming wheat to planting orchards and now is transitioning more to market gardens as the local population seeks more local, fresh produce.

The variety of fruits, vegetables and grains grown in the area is due to the climate, with a generous amount of sun and careful irrigation, it seems almost anything will grow.

The abundance of the harvest is due to the hard work and dedication of those who tend the fields, trees and plants.

Penny Gamble of Gamble Family Farms

Gamble Family Farms sells their produce at the Vernon Farmer’s Market. I decided that I should include a farm outside the Vernon city limits because part of the importance of Vernon is as a local commercial hub. I chose Gamble Family Farms because they had the tastiest fruits.
